PPS Offers High Strength while Reducing Carbon Emissions!

The worldwide polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) market is estimated to value USD 2.14 billion by 2025, according to the findings of a research report by Grand View Research, Inc. Growing necessity for environment-friendly products offering less carbon emission can foster the demand for polyphenylene sulfide. The product offers some effective properties such as stiffness, strength, and high chemical resistance and creep resistance. Low carbon emissions and 100 % recyclability properties of PPS are also anticipated to propel its demand over the coming years. To cater to rising demand, most companies are focusing on R&D investments to increase the number of applications for PPS.
For instance, Teijin Ltd. recently launched Solfiga, a new brand of high-performance specialized PPS compounds. These compounds are made using the proprietary PPS resin techniques of Initz, which is a joint venture of SK Chemicals and Teijin Ltd. Through Solfiga, the company is expecting to support automotive and electronics manufacturers in achieving products with high-end designs and reduced weight.

The large-scale production of the new PPS components will be done at the company’s plant called Mihara in Hiroshima. The company is working on small samples of several customized products. In addition, the company also plans to manufacture the new products at its Teijin Corporation in Thailand and Teijin Chemicals Plastic Compounds in Shanghai, China.
The global polyphenylene sulfide market is estimated to expand at a decent growth rate of 8.8 % during the forecate years (from 2018 to 2025). Stringent government regulations regarding reducing harmful carbon emissions is expected to be the key factor behind the growth of this market. Moreover, growing demand for eco-friendly and lightweight products in different industry verticals is also presumed to positively influence the market demand in the next few years.
Increasing use of PPS in automobiles to enhance their efficiency is likely to impel the market expansion. In addition, increasing adoption of filter bags in power plants is also expected to drive the demand for the PPS market in the coming years. Some of the leading companies offering advanced polyphenylene sulfide are Celanese Corp.; Tosoh Corp.; SK Chemicals; Toray Industries; and Lumeha.
